There are currently four main research themes within the Group: The development of protocols for the successful cryopreservation of fish oocytes and early stage embryos. Investigation of low temperature damage on cellular metabolism and genetic integrity. Molecular biology studies of the impact of chemical and physical insult to cells, including embryonic stem cells, gametes and early stage embryos. The establishment of a cryobank of DNA and cells of endangered fish species. iBEST is the co-ordinating centre for the fish cryobanks of the global ‘Frozen Ark’ project.
